What the badges actually mean.

Read this before you repeat anything you saw on another consultant's poster. A confident wrong answer about recognition can cost a family PKR 64 lakh and their child's career.

Four claims that are not true, however often you see them

✕ “Approved by WHO”

The World Health Organization does not accredit or approve medical schools, and never has. Any poster carrying a WHO logo next to a university name is telling you something that does not exist.

✕ “Approved by ECFMG”

ECFMG certifies individual graduates who meet its requirements. It does not approve institutions. A school cannot be ECFMG approved.

✕ “Listed by FAIMER”

FAIMER publishes a directory. A listing is a record that a school exists. It is not an endorsement and not a quality judgement.

✕ “99% visa success rate”

Nobody can evidence this. We do not say it, and we ask our partners not to say it either.

Graduate pathways — the accurate version

Graduates of these programmes are eligible to apply for USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia), Pakistan's National Licensing Exam and ECFMG certification — subject to each body's own requirements at the time they apply.

Recognition status

The one credential that carries weight is China's Ministry of Education listing — China's own authorisation for a university to teach clinical medicine in English to international students. In this catalogue, Harbin Medical University and Capital Medical University carry it on their own documents. For the other five we confirm the current status in writing before an application is submitted, and we send the family what we get back, whatever it says.
